Sue Rynski est la photographe culte de la scène artistique rock underground de Detroit de la fin des seventies, où elle évoluait dans ce monde débordant de créativité. La musique puissante, made-in-Detroit y est avant tout un moyen de repousser les limites et d’exulter.

Diplômée d’une maîtrise en arts plastiques, Sue fait son chemin avec le collectif et groupe rock « Destroy All Monsters ». Elle élit domicile chez Bookie’s Club 870. Elle est partout, sur scène, en coulisses, dans les loges. Ses photographies joyeuses et délirantes traduisent la vitalité et la passion ambiantes. Elle saisira Iggy Pop, Patti Smith, Ron Asheton, Sonic’s Rendezvous Band, Pere Ubu, The Dead Boys, Johnny Thunders… mieux et plus que quiconque.

Aujourd’hui Sue Rynski continue son oeuvre autour du rock et avec ses thèmes récurrents. Musique, mouvement et émotions exprimés dans et par le corps characterisent son travail. Son monde est toujours la nuit, les bars, les êtres créatifs ou marginaux… Son approche est active, sa vision très personnelle, graphique, élégante et parfois onirique.

Ses photographies sont exposées et reconnues à travers le monde. En 2006 l’éditeur japonais d’art photographique Hysteric Glamour lui consacre une monographie en série numérotée « Sue Rynski : hysteric fifteen », ainsi qu’une collection en série limitée de vêtements de mode. Elle est éditée en France par Chez Higgins : « End of the Night » un coffret portfolio signé et numéroté de 30 pièces, avec une préface originale écrite par Iggy Pop. Et aujourd’hui partant de New York pour une tournée, une sélection de ses photograpies participe à la retrospective artistique du collectif Destroy All Monsters.

EXHIBITIONS

Photographer Sue Rynski is a cult figure of the late seventies rock-and-art scene in her native Detroit – a powerful creative incubator. A Fine Arts graduate, Sue fell in with the band/art collective Destroy All Monsters. She made her headquarters at the legendary Detroit club, Bookies Club 870, and photographed everywhere on the scene. A joyful hysteria, energy and passion are expressed in her black and white work from this period. Iggy Pop, Patti Smith, Ron Asheton, Sonic’s Rendezvous Band, Pere Ubu, The Dead Boys, Johnny Thunders are among the rockers captured.

Today Rynski continues her body of work around rock and roll and with her recurring themes of music, movement and emotion expressed in the body. Her vision is active, raw and sometimes dreamlike transcribed into powerful and elegant compositions.

Sue Rynski’s work is exhibited and recognized internationally. In 2006 Japanese fine art publisher, Hysteric Glamour released the numbered monograph “Sue Rynski : hysteric fifteen” and a limited edition Sue Rynski collection of fashion apparel. Rynski is published in France by Chez Higgins : “End of the Night” a signed and numbered boxed portfolio, with original preface written by Iggy Pop.
